St. Louis Blues starter puts on gear, takes shot at pitching machine

Carter Hutton probably won't be challenging Yadier Molina for the role of St. Louis Cardinals starting catcher any time soon.
Rocking a sweet Blues prototype jersey and bright yellow throwback-style equipment, the St. Louis Blues goalie took a turn catching (and saving) baseballs from a pitching machine in the Cardinals batting cage before the One Nation Classic at Busch Stadium on Sunday.
Hutton took his shot at stopping baseballs instead of pucks. The results were mixed. At one point, after failing to squeeze a ball right in his glove and getting ribbed for it (you can hear in the background someone yell "Catch something!") Hutton made a solid case for the drop. "I'm trying man! It's built for pucks!" Hutton said.
He settled in after the initial adjustment period, even adding some flare after snaring the last one with his goalie glove. His hand might still be stinging though. "I'm ready for spring training," he declared after his session ended. The One Nation Classic, which included a Blues skills competition and game of shinny between Cardinals and Blues greats, wrapped up the weeklong joint celebration of St. Louis sports. Hutton, who received a baseball from the family of Cardinals great Stan Musial after showing off his Cardinals-themed Winter Classic mask , seemed to be at the forefront of the week's activities.
